Father Rich Warsnak

My "call" came somewhat later in life and very unexpectedly. While growing up, I had never considered the possibility of becoming a priest. In fact, I never even served as an "altar boy". I went to college to get a degree in computer science and to work in software development. I took a job as a technology and management consultant and spent seven years traveling throughout the country and truly enjoying my work. I really felt that I was living a very full life. However, during that same time, I was feeling a growing attraction to the Church. I was attending Mass more and spent more time learning about Christ and His Church. However, I never expected that to develop into such a powerful draw to the priesthood. It became so strong that I couldn’t ignore it. I discovered that the more I prayed about it and the more I spoke to others (pastor, vocations director, etc.) about it, the stronger I was convinced it was God calling me to this life. While I was nervous and unsure about such a strong change, I was confident that God would not lead me astray. Ultimately, my choice was based on that conviction.

I experience the "fruit of my vocation" daily and, often, in surprising ways. I have celebrated baptisms, weddings, and funerals – all in the same day. I have witnessed a person’s initial faint curiosity in the Catholic faith grow into a full conversion into RCIA. I have listened to many people speak about their experience of God’s love, mercy, and grace – and I have felt the presence of the Spirit deepen within my own prayer life. I am humbled that God has allowed me to see so much of His love.
